Culinary Calendar

In this campaign of the Southern Wine Route, fresh, seasonal and local products are used, which are available in a high number in the “Vegetable Garden Palatinate”.

Restaurants, wine taverns and licensed houses create special dishes and menus according to the season. You will find these products on four different lovely created menus, which are available in all participating restaurants. You can find these houses with the sign “So schmeckt die Südliche Weinstrasse“ (this is how the Southern Wine Route tastes). At the Southern Wine Route, the Culinary Calendar begins with “Tasty Spring” followed by "Lucullan Summer”, “Culinary Autumn” and “Pleasurable Winter”.

Everything awakens with the spring, stretches and enjoys the life. After the long winter days, everybody looks forward to the fresh and light cuisine of spring: delicious salads, soft dandelions, spring onions or the first fragrant strawberries and the young rhubarb. The cooks of the Southern Wine Route like to use the seasonal vegetables and fruit.
From March to June restaurants, wine taverns and licensed houses attract with their dishes and menu creations with the slogan “Tasty Spring”.

It is the summer that raises our love of life with its colourfulness. Even on the plates of the “Lucullan Summer“ this colourfulness can be seen. Delicious summer fruit from the local harvest, such as strawberries, cherries, melons and lemons, are enchanted to Lucullan delicacies by our creative cooks during the summer months. Be inspired by, for example, figs - one of the most special fruit of our beautiful landscape, which is used for many tempting creations as starters, main dishes or sweet highlight.
Restaurants, wine taverns and licensed houses of the Southern Wine Route create amazing dishes and menu creations with the slogan “Lucullan Summer“ from July until the end of August.

After the bright summer colours, autumn enchants you with pleasing colours of earth tones. Every guest enjoys passionately the magic of this season, which is also affected by the harvest of numerous fruit of our wonderful Palatinate. Even the cuisine tradition on the plates is afffected by this season. Especially in autumn, traditional food is refined elegantly.
It is probably the culinary highlight of the year when chestnuts, pumpkins, mushrooms and game play the main roles in the menus.
Another highlight is, of course, our wine that is kept in barrels in wine cellars, after the grape harvest. The grape juice matures to pulsating new wine. As "Neuer Wein", "Bizzler" or "Federweißer", it can be enjoyed in all occasions.
From the beginning of September until the end of October, restaurants, wine taverns and licensed houses attract you with the slogan “Culinary Autumn”.

In winter, it becomes more contemplative in the gastronomy. There are interesting dishes on the menus during Christmas time until the first carnivals. In November, goose comes to the fore. You may enjoy goose “quite normal“, or with "delicious side dishes", for example, with red cabbage and home-made potatoe dumplings or orange sauce, or goose "stuffed" – perhaps with chestnuts or oranges. Without a question, goose is the main dish of winter.
Further highlights are nuts and, especially, the Palatinate kiwis, which grow on summer and are harvested in late autumn and mature in January. They are ready to be enjoyed in January. They are a little smaller than the foreign kiwis, but better in taste.
From the middle of November until the end of February, our gastronomes prepare a “Pleasurable Winter” for you.
