Gastronomy competition Southern Palatinate 2006

The gastronomies of the Southern Wine Route are excellent. In order to improve them even more and to give our guests the identification of awarded gastronomies, every four years we have a gastronomy competition in the Southern Wine Route; the second in 2006 with the neighbouring district Germersheim.

The jury consists of seven representatives of both districts, the city of Landau, the Hotel and Restaurant Association and the Southern Wine Route school of hotel management. They investigated all participating companies by following criteria:

1. Outer impression (facade, car park)
2. Rooms and furnishing
3. Counter and dispensing equipment
4. Beverage cellars and store rooms
5. Menu and list of beverages
6. Usage of local products
7. Kitchen
8. Toilets
9. Employer and employees
10. Special features
11. Guest rooms

There were two innovations in the Gastronomy Competition of 2006:
First of all, the „Gastronomy Wegweiser 2007/2008“ (Gastronomy guide) was upgraded. Participants had the chance to publish their advertisement in this touristic brochure for free. This means that this brochure also contains companies from the districts of Gemersheim.
Secondly, every successful participant received a badge. The badges for both districts are the same.

At the end of the survey, on 5th of November, 116 gastronomies were awarded in the community centre of Maikammer.
