There is hardly anything better for a wine lover than going to ones own wine cellar and chosing a bottle of good wine. Perhaps, you have already found your favourite winegrower, whose products match your taste perfectly. Nevertheless, the Southern Wine Route offers hundreds of possibilities to discover new wines, taste current vintages or enjoy elder, mature wines.
The Wine Days of the Southern Wine Route, which take place in the beautiful ambiance of the "Frank Loebsche Haus" Landau annually on the weekend after Corpus Christi, will surely give you the best overview of the region. 80 winegrowing estates present their wine mainly from the previous vintage. In such a private atmosphere, it makes a lot of fun to talk with the winegrowers and taste their wines.
Meanwhile, more and more winegrowing communities organize their own events, in which they show the qualities of their locality. For example, the extraordinary wine marathon of Maikammer: it takes place in the middle of March - 24 hours long. Many people set their alarm clock at night, knowing, that also at 4 am wine is being offered. The wine festival in Rhodt at Rietburg, the Sigibaldus fair in Siebeldingen, the arts & culture feast in Gleisweiler or the wine days in Eschbach are also very favourite events.
However, there are still many other events. Our beloved pocket-calendar of wine feasts, which is published every January, presents a wide range of traditional wine feasts and fairs. If the visitors get the impression that the winegrowers of the Southern Wine Route use every opportunity to offer them their quality, they have it right. Otherwise, how should there be so many wine feasts and open days? Our winegrowers love to show you their wine cellars and even guide you through their vineyards. They look forward to your visit - make an appointment in advance, because they want to spend their time with you. Furthermore, in the restaurants of the Southern Wine Route you have the possibility to end your day peacefully with a glass of good wine.
