Tour 9: The long castle tour

On forest nature trails from castle to castle and along meadow valleys from sights to views

Starting point: Annweiler, parking space Villa Gotthold. Length: 28 km, duration: day-trip; we advise hikers to start early in the morning. The tour is recommendable only in summer months, when it is longer bright

The castle tour begins in the city, 181 m. Markings with blue bars lead you out from the city. On your way to Völkersweiler, 290 m, you will pass Asselstein and the monastery St. Paulus. Follow up the blue markings. 438 m away is the Cramerhous (Tue-Sun 9.30 a.m. - 9.30 p.m.)at the foot of the castle ruin Lingelbrunn. Here you may strengthen yourself before or after the ascension. Now you have to follow the markings with yellow and red bars, which lead you along the Silz lake, 210 m, then cross Silz and go to Münchweiler, 206 m. Behind the locality, you have to hike into the forest and uphill. Walk along the lovely forest nature trail to the castle Landeck, 304 m, which is a historical castle from the 12th century. Here you can take a rest in the castle tavern (open daily 11 a.m. - 7/9 p.m.). Then you have to follow the markings with a black dot on a white background. This path leads you along vineyards and the state clinic Kaiserbachmühle. Cross the road B 48 and climb up the road to the parking space with a small chapel, 355 m, and then further up to the beautiful castle Madenburg, 459 m, and to the next castle tavern on the castle yard (open at 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., closed on Mon). Then go back to the parking space and the Cramer path, which is one of the most beautiful hiking paths of the Palatinate. It leads you to the parking space Windhof, 380 m, and the castle ruin Scharfenberg, 488 m. Pass the cliffs Fensterfelsen and the castle ruin Anebos, 482 m. Cross the parking space Schlossäcker, 390 m, where the castle restaurant is located (open daily 10 a.m. -9 p.m.). Here you can climb up to the castle Trifels, 497 m (open daily 9 a.m. - 5/6 p.m., closed in December). If you go back to the parking space Schlossäcker, the markings with white triangles will bring you back straight to Annweiler, and the path which is marked with a yellow bar goes first through the spa gardens and historical alleys and then to the parking space.
