Tour 4: Panorama tour
Summer residence and chair lift, beautiful view and romantic valleys
Starting point: Parking space of the Castle Villa Ludwigshöhe (access road from Edenkoben marked) Length: 10 km, Duration: 3 hours
Start from the castle Villa Ludwigshöhe and follow 306 m the markings with the blue and yellow bars and pass the chair lift station of Rietburg.Hike 398 m to the panorama pavilion Schöner Punkt. Then further to the castle ruin Rietburg, 544 m. If you take the chair lift, you can spare the ascension to the tavern Höhengaststätte Rietburg (Good Friday-1.11. daily 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.). From this panorama terrace you have a wonderful view to the Rhine lowlands. While hiking, you will hardly recognize the height difference of 605 m between the tower Ludwig and the hill Blättersberg. The tour continues with the “Candidus“ path, which is one of the most beautiful hiking path of the Palatinate. Now you will go downward towards the square “Kohlplatz“, 460 m. Then follow the blue-white markings right to the „Hüttenbrunnen, 361 m, and to Edenkobener Cottage (open daily from 10am, besides Tue). There is still one possibility to make a stop during this tour: 500 m in south-west is the Nature Lover’s house on Steigerkopf, 395 m, (open daily from 2 p.m., closed on Tue). 500m South-West in the Sauermilch valley, there is another place to take a rest, namely the House of nature friends at Steigerkopf, 395 m (daily open from 2 p.m., closed on Mon). The red cross markings show you the way back and lead you downwards through a romantic Edenkobener Valley along a brook to Hilsch pond, 310 m, (kiosk and boats rental) and 240 m further to the Siegfriedschmiede, an anciet smith (open daily at 11.30 a.m. - 9 p.m., Mon from 2 p.m , closed on Tue). Now you are almost back to the starting point of your tour. Follow the red bars and after a short rise you are again in the castle Villa Ludwigshöhe.
If you want a longer tour, you can already start on the outskirts of Edenkoben. Here begins the wine nature trail (open-air museum), and from here there are approximately 4km to the castle.
